Part of the project “Ao Ar, Livre”, curated by Tiago de Abreu Pinto.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, I accepted Ana’s invitation to project a video onto the water of my bathroom sink. Her idea was in direct reference to my work Mortinha (2019), in which images of a mermaid were projected into a glass of water. The video projected in my bathroom becomes Ana’s own “The octopusse’s routine” (2018), the documentation of a synchronized swimming routine in the pool of a mansion.
Ana thus appropriates my work in two ways simultaneously: first, the project is an appropriation of certain procedures of the artwork Mortinha. Secondly, Ana also appropriates my labor, for I’m the one who actually makes the work, in my own bathroom sink. An entanglement of how artworks are made conceptually and in terms of labor.
