Spiraling
2024
In Spiraling, the curtains of the 4th floor of the Edifício Armando Lara are converted into freshwater aquarium decorations that shelter three snails.
Spirals, common in nature, frequently lend their shape to architectural ornaments. Here, besides being in the rocailles of the facade, they are also embodied in the curtain rails, designing the snail-shaped fabric divisions of the space.
In Spiraling [Caraminholas], the three curtains are transposed to an aquarium inhabited by three mollusks, in a kind of reverse mimesis. The spirals of the room come to life in the freshwater snails, whose shells, in turn, are also spirals. From this repetition – from spiral to spiral to spiral [de caracol em caracol em caracol] – comes the title Spiraling [Caraminholas].
