Galactic Itch (or Pororoca) began as a lecture-performance in which Flora Leite talks about whipping egg whites, the Moon, and slices of cheese. Through a thought process that mingles science and art-making practices, the artist explores the quantum entanglements that come into place when we decide to look at something.
The work was weaved in between theory and practical experiments developed in the labs of the Jan van Eyck Academie. Concepts and literature were explored to match tests within the Food lab and the Future Materials lab; images were made within the Printing & Publishing and Protography & Audivisual labs that required explanation through quantum physics; bibliography fed new ideas and objects.
The work has been developed into a video, a photographic series, and also a book.
